Pilates Mat Teacher Training
Written by third-generation Classical Pilates teacher Erika Ferguson, this comprehensive mat teacher training blends over 21 years of teaching experience with a deep understanding of movement, biomechanics, cueing, and intelligent programming.
Originally trained through the Merrithew method before transitioning fully into Classical Pilates, Erika completed her comprehensive classical training at Circle Pilates in Toronto under Shareen Woodford, with lineage tracing directly to Jay Grimes and the original teachings of Joseph Pilates.
After teaching throughout Halifax for over a decade, Erika opened The Pilates Barre Halifax in 2019, where she became known for her precise teaching style, attention to detail, and ability to help clients and teachers develop strength, control, and deep body awareness through technique-driven movement.
This training is designed for aspiring instructors, movement professionals, and dedicated students seeking a deeper understanding of the Pilates method through a classical lens. Emphasis is placed on proper technique, intelligent progression, anatomy, cueing, observation skills, and developing the ability to teach with clarity, precision, and confidence.
Unlike fast-paced certification models focused primarily on choreography or repetition, this program prioritizes true understanding of movement, body connection, and the foundational principles that allow Pilates to create lasting change in the body.
Trainees in her programs participate in guided instruction, practice teaching, self-practice, observation, and hands-on mentorship throughout the program.
